Our Edwinstowe Concert

We had a super Concert at Edwinstowe on 24 June on a very warm evening. We expended so much energy I would hazard a guess that all Concert attire is either in the wash or at the cleaners or at least on the line having a good blow in the breeze!

We sang a very full programme of songs with a wide variety of style, genre, pace and emotion ranging from Baroque to modern day music. I honestly think we enjoy everything we sing and our performance echoes this enjoyment. Our M.D. Ash puts his all into leading us and his energy and enthusiasm is infectious.

We had a wonderful variety of solo items and soloists. However skilled a performer it still takes courage to stand alone or in an ensemble and give a confident rendition.

Ashley Argile invariably comes up with a new (old) piece to play on classical guitar and charmed us with "La Gatica," translated as "The Kitten."

This was followed by a very talented quartet of ladies; Barbara, Margaret, Vera and Sandra who sang "Look at the World," a wonderfully melodic song by a favourite composer, John Rutter.

Sandra put on one of her other hats and played the "Prelude" from "The Victorian Kitchen Garden," on Clarinet with great expression and accompanied by Maureen Lockwood.

Liz Smith sang "Panis Angelicus." She has such a clear soprano voice that is well appreciated. Maureen also accompanied Liz.

Ash then deviated from the classical line and played an enthusiastic jazz version of "All of Me," with huge verve and energy. A proper toe tapper!

And I found a new little poem to read which went down well.

Janet, our regular pianist gave her all as usual. She is a great part of the choir and a huge support for us all.

Altogether, a good night out was delivered to our loyal and appreciative audience. They always enjoy the Concert.... and super refreshments.
