2016 Christmas Music in Edwinstowe

Sitting here listening to Classic FM where every alternate piece of music is related to Christmas, I am reminded or even inspired to write a blog on our Concert for the website.

Didn't we do well! I have heard nothing but favourable comments on my daily visits to the Village. I feel we all gave the 120% required by Ash and sang with the sensitivity, verve and gusto required for each piece.

All the soloists were warmly applauded and well appreciated. I was sorely tempted to fill the little gap between The Carollers and Ash's solo while he removed his fancy dress outfit but fortunately I had left my tap shoes at home.

Ash's violin solo was tremendous, requiring great digital dexterity powered by his giddy fingers, and skilfully accompanied by Maureen.

Our men excelled in their rendition of The Carollers, such fun. I think that they secretly enjoy the dressing up for their performance.

Ashley Argyle charmed us with his delicate and sensitive guitar solos of two Carols, always a joy to hear.

Sandra's Clarinet solo was really beautiful, she is so talented, and again, accompanied by Maureen.

The quartet of Penny, Margaret, Sandra and Vera sang a gentle carol with lovely harmonies and Liz sang a beautiful solo with her glorious soprano voice, and I did "mi pome." My goodness we have got some talent among us.

Our performances for the year finished with a Carol Sing in the Restaurant of The Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre on the Sunday following the Concert. We entertained the diners with an hour of music to accompany their turkey dinners or snacks. I think it came as a bit of a shock as we belted out God Rest You Merry Gentlemen in the middle of their Yorkshire Pudding!! Hand it to them though, most of them smiled and stuck it out until we finished, and then we had a gossip over coffee and mince pies before going home to finish preparing for our own Christmases.
